he European Commission has launched two calls for evidence to help shape its future Ocean and Water Research and Innovation (R&I) Strategy, a flagship initiative under the EU Water Resilience Strategy and the European Ocean Pact. The new strategy is designed to strengthen Europe’s leadership in ocean and water research, innovation and technology, while boosting competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy.
One consultation focuses on ocean R&I priorities, including the protection and restoration of marine ecosystems, ocean observation and the development of a sustainable blue economy. The second addresses water resilience, covering freshwater management, water efficiency and reuse, and innovative solutions for sustainable water use.
