The European Commission, DG Research and Innovation, has launched a Call for Evidence on the European Research Area.

In September 2020, the Commission had adopted the Communication on ‘A new ERA for Research and Innovation’, describing a new vision for a stronger European Research Area (ERA) based on four priorities:

  • prioritising investments and reforms
  • improving access to excellence
  • translating R&I results into the economy
  • deepening the ERA.

Four years on, the Commission intends to publish a new Communication looking at the progress achieved in these areas and identifying the remaining challenges. The Commission will consider stakeholders’ contributions to the Call for Evidence when drafting the Communication. Stakeholders are invited to provide their feedback, in particular on the progress made so far and the remaining challenges, thus helping to build the path for future action. The contributions received will complement other consultation activities described in the call text.
