The EU is investing €411 million in 73 new projects that will develop and facilitate access to better technology and services for researchers to address EU priorities and make the European Research Area more competitive.

A selection of 73 new Horizon Europe projects will provide researchers and innovators with better and more accessible tools, services, and technologies to support fields such as health research, climate resilience, agriculture, transport, and manufacturing.
The projects will also invest in professionals behind research infrastructures by improving training, fostering mobility, and creating new career opportunities.
The outcomes are expected to support Mission Cancer, Destination Earth, accelerate the green and digital transitions, and advance scientific knowledge while making Europe more competitive.
Projects are starting their activities.

What will the funded projects do?
The projects have been selected to work under 18 different topics.
Developing, consolidating and optimising the European research infrastructures landscape, maintaining global leadership (INFRADEV): 30 projects funded
Projects are expected to contribute to consolidating the research infrastructure landscape, explore future frameworks for investment plans and offer training and upskilling opportunities for research infrastructures staff.
For instance, the MARINERG-i project aims to establish a world-leading distributed research infrastructure that accelerates the development of Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) technologies, including wind, wave, tidal and hybrid systems.
The TALENTUM project looks into developing a training and up-skilling programme focusing on health and food. With CLARIN-ERIC and Citizen Science experts, the project will address transversal, human-centered, and cutting-edge skills of technical professionals.
FAIR and open data sharing, European Open Science Cloud Association (EOSC) Partnership, Innovative and customizable services for EOSC Exchange (INFRAEOSC): 13 projects funded
Projects are expected to advance AI-readiness and Machine-Actionability. Some projects should enhance skills in data management and interpretation, and improve findability, accessibility, interoperability and re-usability of digital research outputs.
For example, the FLUID-AI project aims to transform the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) into a dynamic, AI-ready and trustworthy ecosystem.
GenAI4Earth is building a suite of trustworthy Generative AI services to accelerate research on Earth, climate, environmental, and life-system interactions. The project will test these tools in real-world pilots covering urban resilience, agricultural and environmental monitoring, and seismology.
STARDAST is creating a Europe-wide ecosystem for professional data stewardship, bringing together research institutions, universities, and industry. The project positions data stewards as co-creators in the research process, helping to drive collaboration and innovation across disciplines.
RIs services to support health research, the green transition, the digital transformation, and frontier knowledge(INFRASERV): 12 projects funded
Projects should support research infrastructure services that advance frontier knowledge and enable the research community to address EU priorities.
For instance, the ISIDORe II project builds upon its predecessor ISIDORe to deliver excellent Research Infrastructures services for pandemic preparedness and response.
Next generation of scientific instrumentation, tools and methods and advanced digital solutions (INFRATECH destination) I 18 projects funded
Projects should enhance scientific and technological competitiveness of European research infrastructures. This will be done in particular by advancing AI-powered impact simulations to support the Destination Earth initiative: and by developing AI-generated digital twins that could help address challenges in healthcare, transportation, agriculture, environment, manufacturing or other fields related to the Clean Industrial Deal. Some projects should also improve the sustainability of research infrastructures.
For instance, the CLAIMA project will build a European AI-driven climate digital twin platform that delivers fast, high-resolution and trustworthy climate simulations for science, industry and policy.
The ESG4Stars project will work on reducing the environmental footprint of the entire scientific computing and data analysis lifecycle on European research infrastructures.
On the other hand, the EPITA project, which aims to build 22 new prototypes in collaboration with industry, could be revolutionary for Europe’s particle accelerator community, aiming to bring to life groundbreaking technologies.
