The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO) has recently published its position paper on the next Research Framework Programme.

Amongst other issues, the WKO calls for a budget of at least € 200 billion for FP 10. It regards Horizon Europe as “too complex” and calls for simplification in the next Framework Programme. Other issues addressed include the innovation divide, and dual use research which, according to the WKO, “should not lead to unnecessary restrictions and administrative burden”. The WKO is also in favour of strengthening synergies with national programmes.

The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber regards the following as a foundation for a strong FP10:

  1. Fostering groundbreaking research,
  2. a reshaped mission-oriented approach,
  3. strong support to General Purpose Technologies
  4. enabling more Dispruptive Innovation.
