ERASMUS MUNDUS INFODAY – Streaming Service of the European Commission (europa.eu)

The Erasmus Mundus actions aim to promote excellence and global internationalisation of higher education institutions through Master’s degree programmes jointly implemented and recognised by higher education institutions based in Europe and open to institutions in other countries of the world.

What are the types of activities and how to get involved?

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) and the Erasmus Mundus Design Support Measures (EMDM) are two independent types of projects. It is not necessary to introduce an EMDM before an EMJM, the granting of an EMDM does not imply automatic funding under the EMJM and the completion of an EMDM project is not a criterion for the award of an EMJM.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters

The action supports highly integrated transnational study programmes at Master’s level, implemented by an international consortium of higher education institutions from different countries of the world and, where appropriate, other partners active in the field of education and beyond. (This action is similar to the previous Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees.)

Terms of Engagement

  • Higher education institutions from all over the world (with the exception of Belarus and Russia) can apply for projects.
  • Partnerships must involve at least 3 HEIs (as full partners) from 3 different countries, of which at least 2 are EU Member States or third countries associated to the Programme.
  • The consortium will receive a grant agreement for a period of 74 months to fund at least 4 sections of Master’s studies of 1 to 2 academic years (60, 90 or 120 ECTS credits).
  • The amount of the EMJM grant is calculated on the basis of the following three components: (1) contribution to the institutional costs of the implementation of the Programme; (2) the maximum number of student scholarships to be awarded for the duration of the agreement; 3) Increases to cover individual needs.
  • The maximum contribution to institutional costs is €750/month x DR (maximum duration of the programme in months) x NRES (expected number of students enrolled over the entire duration of the grant agreement).
  • The maximum amount of the scholarship per student is 1,400 euros/month x DS (duration of the master’s program).
  • In addition, consortia may also apply for additional funding from external EU instruments for students from third countries not associated to the Programme (Regions 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11). Up to 31 scholarships can be awarded from NDICI and up to 4 (for the entire duration of the programme) from IPA III.

Erasmus Mundus Design Measures

The main objective of this action is to support the development of new, innovative and highly integrated transnational study programmes at Master’s level. These support measures should involve Erasmus+ Programme Countries, institutions from these countries or thematic areas that are under-represented in the Erasmus Mundus Programme.

Terms of Engagement

  • Higher education institutions from all over the world (with the exception of Belarus and Russia) can apply for projects. This is a single-beneficiary grant.
  • The duration of the project is 15 months.
  • The support takes the form of a one-off financial contribution of €55,000 per project. The grant is intended for costs directly related to the activities necessary for the creation of a new Master’s programme (meetings, conferences, studies, accreditation process, etc.).

How to apply?

The application process takes place via the portal Funding and Tenders Opportunities (FTOP). Current calls and deadlines, necessary documents, forms, model grant agreements and other requirements are published here.
