European Union (EU) has awarded the Austrian city of Klagenfurt the “EU Seal of Mission” award for climate neutral and smart cities as part of the “EU-Cities Missions” for the successful development of climate city agreements and plans to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.

10 European cities received the seal of the EU mission for climate-neutral and smart cities, the  “EU Cities Mission.” This is one of the five EU missions under Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation funding program until 2027. This award appreciates the cities’ plans to achieve climate neutrality as early as 2030. In this way, the necessary public and private financial resources are to be better made available. Klagenfurt, the capital of the Federal Land of Carinthia, received this award among the other 10 award-winning European cities. The initiative is part of the research and innovation program Horizon Europe.

Apart from Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia, the cities of Mannheim (Germany), Sønderborg (Denmark), Madrid, Valencia, Valladolid, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Zaragoza (Spain), Cluj-Napoca (Romania) and Stockholm (Sweden) also received awards.
