Sixty-six research teams, made up of a total of 239 scientists, will be awarded €684 million from the European Research Council through Synergy Grants. These grants are designed to support small groups of researchers who collaborate on ambitious and potentially high-impact projects that also carry significant risks. Out of 712 applications submitted, only about one in ten were approved. Each successful team will receive approximately €10.3 million for their project.
The selected projects will be carried out at universities and research centres in 26 countries across Europe and beyond. Twenty-eight projects will involve grantees based in Germany, 24 in the United Kingdom, and 21 in both France and the United States. 6 grantees are based in Austria.
