Ursula von der Leyen announced a €50 billion investAI initiative and an additional €8 billion to AI Factories during her AI Action Summit speech in Paris.
France and the EU Commission have now fully committed to joining the AI race, putting growth and cash over responsibility.
“The AI race is far from over,” von der Leyen said in her speech, before proceeding to announce further investments in the tens of billions.
She welcomed the private €150 billion EU AI Champions initiative announced yesterday, and announced an investAI initiative to “top up” these investments by €50 billion, making it the largest public-private partnership in the world.
She said the EU is investing €10 billion in AI factories, public supercomputers. That suggests the €1.96 billion initiative will be boosted by some €8 billion. Von der Leyen called it the largest public AI investment, and said it would unlock over ten times more private investments.
