The Hellenic Mediterranean University, in collaboration with the Virtual Exchange Project IMPACT, celebrates one more year of the ERASMUS DAYS. Last year, our topic was the Internationalization of Higher Education. This year, we celebrate Virtual Internationalization from the 14th to the 18th of October (1600 – 1700 CET)

The rapid evolution of digital technologies has transformed the landscape of higher education, enabling the proliferation of virtual internationalization. This paradigm leverages online platforms and digital tools to facilitate global engagement, collaboration, and learning without physical mobility. Virtual internationalization offers inclusive and equitable opportunities for students and faculty to participate in international experiences, fostering intercultural competence and global citizenship. This approach encompasses a variety of strategies, including virtual exchange programs, collaborative online international learning (COIL), and globally networked learning environments. The effectiveness of virtual internationalization in enhancing educational outcomes, promoting cultural understanding, and preparing students for a globalized workforce is critically examined. Furthermore, this format of internationalization discusses the challenges and best practices in implementing virtual internationalization initiatives, emphasizing the role of institutional support, technological infrastructure, and curriculum integration. As higher education institutions worldwide navigate the complexities of a post-pandemic era, virtual internationalization emerges as a pivotal component in the redefinition of international education.

We have planned presentations and discussions with experts, practitioners, and participants so that by the end of this week of celebrations, we have an overall view of opportunities, gains, and challenges of an action that envisions building an internationalization culture without leaving anyone behind.
