On 4 November 2025, CINEA published a new call for proposals for cross-border renewable energy (CB RES) projects under the CEF Energy programme. The call, with an available budget of €150 million, will open for submissions on 5 February 2026, with a deadline on 12 March 2026. It aims to support works and studies for projects that boost renewable generation across borders and strengthen the integration of renewables into the EU energy system.
The call targets CB RES projects included in the latest CB RES list adopted by the European Commission, as only projects with the CB RES status are eligible for funding under the CB RES window of CEF Energy. *For those projects that don’t have the status, please note that the 5th call to obtain the CB RES status is currently open (deadline 5 February 2026).
Cross-border RES projects are expected to promote cooperation on the planning, development and cost-effective exploitation of renewable energy sources, and to facilitate their integration through, for example, storage facilities. ‘Works’ may cover the purchase, supply and deployment of components, systems and services (including software), as well as development, construction, installation, acceptance of installations and the launch of a CB RES project. ‘Studies’ may include preparatory, mapping, feasibility, evaluation, testing and validation activities, as well as other technical support measures and in-depth assessment of technical, environmental, regulatory, economic or legal risks to determine whether and how a project should be implemented.
