The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Governing Board has released a bold, updated vision to boost Europe’s innovation and global competitiveness, targeting the 2028–2034 EU budget. The new strategy centers on a refined Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) Model, built on seven principles such as streamlined governance, stronger industry leadership, and financial self-sufficiency from the start.
Key proposals include a harmonized innovation framework, simplified access for innovators, and deeper talent development – all designed to reinforce the EIT as the EU’s central innovation hub. The vision emphasizes closing Europe’s regional innovation and skills gaps, with targeted support for widening countries and advanced training for future talent.
Reflecting current priorities, the EIT suggests security, resilience, AI, and robotics as potential new KIC themes. Enhanced collaboration with the European Innovation Council and alignment with EU initiatives like the Union of Skills and the Startup and Scaleup Strategy are also highlighted.
Since its founding, the EIT has supported nearly 10,000 companies and trained over 1.3 million learners, cementing its role as a unique catalyst for a more connected, inclusive, and competitive European innovation landscape.
