On 1 January 2025, Poland took over the EU Council Presidency from its predecessor Hungary for the first half of 2025. Poland is part of the “Trio Presidency” of Poland – Denmark – Cyprus. The Polish Presidency’s priorities are “A Strong and Secure Europe, a Prosperous and Competitive Europe, a Free and Democratic Europe”.
In the field of research and innovation, the Polish Presidency will focus on “Openness, Inclusion and Synergies”. Topics to be dealt with by Poland during its Council Presidency will include amongst others:
- Council Conclusions on the Mid-term Evaluation of Horizon Europe
- next Research Framework Programme (including an envisaged declaration on the strategic role of FP10)
- the Council Recommendation on the ERA Action Plan 2025-2027
- extension of the EURATOM programme until 2027
- technology infrastructures (with an envisaged Communication by the Commission)
- Artificial Intelligence in science and research
- science diplomacy.
