The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) has published its position on FP10. The paper emphasizes the critical role of Research Infrastructures (RIs) as strategic assets. The key messages of ESFRI’s position paper are as follows:
Capacity Building in FP10: RIs should be seen as foundational for all FP10 activities, from groundbreaking science to disruptive technologies. A crosscutting strategy for research and technology infrastructures is essential, requiring proper financial resources to ensure seamless access and support for all researchers.
Holistic Infrastructure Ecosystem: European RIs form an interconnected ecosystem of data, technology, and research infrastructures needing continuous support through cohesive funding strategies. Avoiding silos and fostering commonalities through strategic governance and coordinated funding will enhance the holistic development of this ecosystem.
Policy Tool for Integration and Cooperation: RIs foster European integration and international cooperation, exemplified by collaborative data gathering for climate change, biodiversity, and public health. FP10 should support secure transnational access, promote research security, and enhance internationalisation while bolstering European integration, particularly for widening countries.
