Institute founded by Larry Ellison gives £130 million for joint programmes including doctoral training
A fledgling technology institute founded by US billionaire Larry Ellison has announced £130 million for programmes with the University of Oxford aiming to turn research “into products for the wider benefit of society and for global impact”.
The Ellison Institute of Technology, named after the co-founder of the software company Oracle, is geared towards improving the UK’s patchy record with commercialising scientific discoveries. Many British startups and university spinout companies struggle to raise funds to scale up in the UK and end up being sold to foreign investors.
