Established in 1979, the Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) has a dual purpose: to beckon promising young researchers to Japanese research institutions, fostering their capabilities to address issues within their countries, and to support endeavors that forge connections between Japan and other nations. Drawing inspiration from the esteemed Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany, MIF, operating as a private entity, actively conducts initiatives to invite researchers from across the globe to Japan. This invitation extends to individuals irrespective of their nationality, religion, or political background, providing them with a unique opportunity to engage in research unburdened by obligations. Since its inception, MIF has welcomed approximately 800 researchers hailing from 120 countries/regions, contributing significantly to the cultivation of a diverse and collaborative global research community.
