The European Commission has published the number of project proposals submitted to the Horizon Europe 2024 call in Cluster 2 – Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society. The call opened on October 4, 2023 and closed on February 7, 2024 . The topics focused on research on democracy or the handling of information manipulation, ongoing changes in the protection of cultural heritage, sustainable transformation or European social inequality. A total of 737 proposals were submitted. An evaluation by independent experts is now underway. 75 projects with a total funding of €256 million will be selected.
In the democracy research destination , 287 project proposals were submitted to the HORIZON-CL2-2024-DEMOCRACY-01 call (12 open topics). 31 of them will be selected for financing and the total budget is €95 million. The topic of Interrelationship between social, cultural, political identity, sense of belonging and democracies aroused the greatest interest , to which 61 proposals were submitted. The second most frequent topic was Culture, art and cultural space for democratic participation and political expression, online and offline , for which 51 proposals were submitted.
In the destination for cultural heritage research , a total of 178 project proposals were submitted to the HORIZON-CL2-2024-HERITAGE-01 call (5 open topics). 15 projects with a total budget of €65 million will be selected for financing . The topic of New European Bauhaus – an innovative solution for a greener and fairer way of life through art and culture, architecture and design for all – attracted the most interest , to which 58 proposals were submitted.
In the destination for social and economic transformation research, 272 project proposals were submitted to the HORIZON-CL2-2024-TRANSFORMATIONS-01 call (11 open topics). 29 projects and a total budget of €96 million will be designated for financing . The topic of Assessing and strengthening the complementarity between new technologies and human capabilities aroused the greatest interest , to which 58 proposals were submitted. The second most frequent topic was Art and cultural awareness/expression in education and training , for which 54 proposals were submitted.
The results of the evaluation will be known in June 2024. The projects themselves will start in the last quarter of 2024.
