The Swiss National Foundation for the Promotion of Science (SNSF) will award about CHF 115 million to projects selected under the SNSF Starting Grants 2023 transitional measure.

After a two-step evaluation process, SNSF selected 67 projects out of 447 evaluated SNSF Starting Grants 2023 applications for fundingThe budget of about CHF 115 million will cover the costs of 66 projects. In addition, the Swiss Parkinson’s Disease Foundation will fund a project on multisystem atrophy. Research work will continue for an average of five years.

In view of Switzerland’s status as a non-associated third country in Horizon Europe, SNSF has again launched a call for proposals for the SNSF Starting Grants transitional arrangement on behalf of the federal government. The SNSF Starting Grants 2023 call was aimed at scientists who wanted to launch their own project in Switzerland with their own team.

This year’s novelty: the PRIMA funding scheme for outstanding women researchers has been included in the SNSF start-up grants. Of the 44 women researchers supported, 14 are funded by CHF 24 million from the PRIMA budget.
