In 2021, the European Commission launched a new initiative – Teacher Academies. The development of these academies aims to increase the attractiveness of the teaching profession and to ensure high-quality initial education as well as continuing professional development for teachers, trainers and school leaders. The aim of this action is to establish European partnerships between providers of initial and continuing teacher education and training (at ISCED level 1-3) and other relevant actors.
There is no call for 2023.
What are the types of activities?
Pedagogical academies are intended to support international cooperation, sharing of good practice and the development of innovative teaching modules or practices in teacher education. Stakeholders create a training offer with a European dimension and strengthen the internationalisation of teacher education, addressing key EU topics such as digitalisation, sustainability, equality and inclusion. Schools are also involved in testing and sharing innovative teaching methods to enable the practical training of future teachers. Another objective of the academies is to develop new models of teacher learning mobility and to strive for it to become a mainstream part of teacher education. Academies may also conduct studies, research, and/or surveys or collect best practices. In doing so, they are intended to contribute to the development of education policy at European, national and regional level.
